Peter Hillier

About me

 

Born in Altrincham, Cheshire.

 

Originally studied printed textile design at Manchester College of Art (now Manchester Metropolitan University) and subsequently established a successful career as a free-lance designer both nationally and internationally. Exhibited and sold designs in London, Amsterdam, Frankfurt and New York and undertook a number of specific commissions for the Courtauld Group, Liberty’s of London, Viyella and produced fabrics for John Player ‘Special’ Grand Prix.

 

In the late 1980’s turned to painting architectural subjects and landscape. Works almost exclusively with acrylic medium which provides a richness and brilliance of colour.

 

Until August 1996 was Course Leader for BA(Hons) Decorative Arts at Nottingham Trent University, having previously lectured in design for printed textiles in the department of fashion and textiles.

 

Elected fellow of the Royal Society of Arts in 1993.

 

As a painter has exhibited at the Scottish Royal Watercolour Society, Edinburgh; Ayling Porteus Gallery, Chester; University of Nottingham Club; Patchings Arts Centre, Notts.

 

Most recently at Leicester City Art Gallery; Derby City Art Gallery; Djanogly Gallery, University of Nottingham; Nottingham Castle Museum and Art Gallery; Thoresby Gallery, Notts; Lace Market Theatre, Nottingham; with the Royal Watercolour Society at the Bankside Gallery, London and with the Royal Society of Painters in Watercolour, Mall Galleries, also in London.
